In general, people have been trained to believe that “comfort” foods are bad for the body and need to be avoided. At times, if the comfort food is a sugary food or some other junk food, this is true. Otherwise, comfort foods could be very healthy and good for you. There are several foods that basically can boost your moods when you eat them. When you are feeling a little down and need an emotional boost, try some of these.

Make a trail mix from seeds and/or nuts. Your mood can be improved by eating peanuts, almonds, cashews, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, and other types of nuts. This is because seeds and nuts have lots of magnesium which increases your brain’s serotonin levels. Serotonin is the “feel good” chemical substance that dictates to your brain how you feel all the time. The higher your serotonin levels, the better you will feel. Not only that, nuts, specifically, are a terrific protein source.
